SongLit privacy policy.
SongLit does not collect your personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind, and Royan AB operates no server for it.
The short version. Nothing about you is sent to Royan AB, because there is nowhere for it to be sent. To show lyrics, the app asks public music catalogs about the song you are playing. Everything else — your settings, your cached lyrics, your sign-in tokens — stays on your Mac.
Who this policy is from
SongLit is published by Royan AB, a company registered in Sweden (org nr 559573-6975) at Edinsvägen 1, 131 45 Nacka, Stockholm. For anything in this policy, write to [email protected]. Royan AB is the data controller for the limited processing described below.
What stays on your Mac
All of the following is stored locally and never transmitted anywhere:
- Your settings and preferences, in the standard macOS preferences store.
- Cached lyrics, artist information and artwork, in the app's own sandboxed cache folder. Clearing the cache in Settings deletes them immediately.
- If you choose to sign in to Spotify, the resulting access and refresh tokens, held in the macOS Keychain. They are never sent to Royan AB.
- Whatever is currently playing. SongLit reads the track title, artist, album and playback position from your music app in order to find and time the lyrics. That reading happens entirely on your Mac.
What leaves your Mac
To find lyrics and artwork, SongLit sends information about the song — never about you — to the public services below. None of these requests carries an account identifier, device identifier or advertising identifier, because the app has none.

Two of these deserve to be spelled out rather than left in a table.
Lyric translation
Translation is off by default. If you switch it on, the lyric text of the song you are playing is sent to a public Lingva Translate instance, which is operated by volunteers and not by Royan AB. We cannot make guarantees about how any given instance handles requests. If you would rather no lyric text ever left your Mac, leave translation off.
Signing in to Spotify
Signing in is optional and the app is fully usable without it. It uses the standard OAuth 2.0 authorization-code flow with PKCE, so your Spotify password is entered on Spotify's own page and is never seen by SongLit. The tokens that come back are stored in your macOS Keychain and used only to call Spotify on your behalf. Signing out deletes them.
Network requests and IP addresses
Any request to any server on the internet necessarily reveals your IP address to whoever operates that server, and the services above are no exception. Each is an independent third party with its own privacy policy, linked in the table. Royan AB does not receive, log or have access to those requests.
Permissions macOS will ask for
On first launch macOS asks whether SongLit may control Spotify or Apple Music. This is what lets the app know which song is playing and where in the song you are; without it, lyrics cannot be synchronised. The permission is used for nothing else, you grant it to macOS rather than to Royan AB, and you can withdraw it at any time in System Settings under Privacy & Security → Automation.
Data we do not have
Because SongLit has no backend, no account system and no analytics, Royan AB holds no personal data about users of the app. There is consequently nothing for us to sell, share, profile or hand to advertisers — and no data of yours for us to lose in a breach. A request to access, correct, export or erase personal data under the GDPR would return nothing, but if you would like that confirmed in writing, ask and we will confirm it.
Children
SongLit is not directed at children specifically, and does not knowingly collect information from anyone — including children — because it does not collect information at all. Lyrics come from public catalogs and may contain explicit language that Royan AB does not author, control or filter.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top of the page changes with it, and a material change will be described in the release notes of the version that introduces it.
